gTLDs are Here to Stay

Are you looking for a way to differentiate yourself or your business on the inter webs? Of course you are, who isn’t trying to stand out in a very crowded space? Since the .net, .com and .org’s have been around for so long there are virtually millions of domain names out there. Not to mention the many names that are being hoarded by domain squatters. With all that competition how is one supposed to stand out?

Easy, gTLD’s are all the rage these days. That stands for generic top level domain, if you didn’t already know. Virtually every industry will have their own gTLD, eventually. One, in particular, that is available now is .construction. In my opinion, this is one of the more focused gTLD’s out there. What do I mean by that? I mean, similarly to the .realtor gTLD, it conveys exactly what service the company relates to. It can be used by general contractors, architects, home builders and an array of different construction disciplines. Maybe you are an electrician or plumber that does large scale commercial work and you want to make sure your customers are aware of that part of your business. Maybe your electrician business has a construction aspect to it and you want to make a specific marketing package for that function you could use Outstandingelectrician.construction or something similar to convey those functions and make it easy for customers to remember.

And if you think these are just a fad there are some stats available at ntldstats.com that illustrate how popular these are becoming. On June 1, 2014 ntldstats.com  reported that there were 900,000 registrations of gTLD’s and as of July 5, 2014 there are at total of 1,460,577. That is an increase of 560,577 registrations in 35 days, over 16,000 registrations a day of gTLD’s! Those are some pretty impressive numbers.

So, I think it is safe to say that gTLD’s are here to stay and it is new web real estate that has a ton of possibilities for Realtors®, contractors and electricians alike. If you want to register yours now you can go to GoDaddy.com, they make it very easy. Also, if you want to know which gTLD’s are available GoDaddy has that info too.
