Prescription Drug Disposal Event in Scottsdale

We all have over the counter or prescription drugs that are expired or no longer needed that we don’t need lying around the house.  Until now, I did not know what to do with them.

I recently, attended the Scottsdale Area Association of REALTORS® (SAAR) Expo event and met Officer Craig Abernethy of the Scottsdale Police Department.  He informed me of this great event that apparently needs to be publicized a little more. So, I am doing my part.  Here are the details.

Who: Any resident of Maricopa County

What: Any prescription or over the counter medication

Where: Mohave Middle SchoolClick here for a Google Map

When: July 17, 2009 – 7:00 am – 10:00 am

Why: By safely destroying medications, we can potentially keep them out of the hands of children and others. Also, by not disposing of them by our own means, we can keep the environment free of hazards generated by the breakdown of chemicals.

Guidelines:

  • Keep all medications in original containers
  • Include the name of the drug(s)
  • No syringes or bio-waste
  • Drugs must be given to a Police Officer ONLY

For more information you can contact:  Officer Jen Wattier at 480-312-0275 or Officer Craig Abernethy at 480-312-2594
