The Levee Trail – A great family hike

Last weekend my wife and I were looking to take our two boys (ages almost 4 and 7) on a great little hike in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. One of the many things we love about living in Scottsdale is the ease of access to a ton of different outdoor activities.

Levee Trail Hike in Scottsdale

This article afternoon, we were looking for a trail that was not very long but had the option to continue if the kids were feeling up to it. Had little incline, some scenery and views.

We found that trail in the Levee Trail.

The trail is easily accessible from a very convenient small parking lot on the north side of Bell at 104th Street. You can also access the trail from the Gateway loop via a couple connector trails. It is relatively flat but when you get to the end of the trail you have the option of proceeding either to the Gateway Loop trail or climb a hill to the lookout. Both are great options.
We decided to continue along the Gateway Loop for a while before turning around. The boys made it a full 3.75 miles round trip, not bad for a Sunday afternoon.

If you want more information about any of the hikes available in the McDowell Mountains check out the City of Scottsdale’s page or the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy.

And most importantly, get out there and enjoy all that Scottsdale has to offer.
